If you will be attending the AAPT Summer Meeting in Sacramento, here are a few highlights related to TYCs that you might want to check out:
- TYC Tandem Conference (requires registration through AAPT) - Sat. July 15
- APS Critical Conversations in Physics Classrooms (info below) - Sun. July 16 1pm-5pm
- Workshop: PICUP: Integrating Computation into Introductory Physics at TYCs (requires registration through AAPT) - Sun. July 16 1pm-5pm
- TYC Day (included in registration for the summer meeting) - Mon. July 17
- TYC Resource Area (Exhibit Hall)
APS Critical Conversations in Physics Classrooms:
- The American Physical Society Innovation Fund seeks volunteers to participate in a pilot workshop, "Critical Conversations in the Physics Classroom," on Sunday, July 16th, 1 pm - 5 pm. The session will take place in the Sheraton Hotel's Carr Room.
- We are looking for physics faculty/instructors interested in DEI in the physics classroom who would gladly give us honest formative feedback on the workshop. This workshop results from a collaboration between physicists and social scientists, laying the foundation for difficult conversations around DEI, power structures, and other issues that may arrive in our science classes.
- Note the 4-hour workshop includes a 15-minute break and 30-45 minutes of debriefing and snacks.
- If you or a colleague are interested in attending, please get in touch with Jesus Pando at jpando@depaul.edu or Kathryn Walters-Conte at waltersconte@aps.org.
