Proposal Title: Alternative Grading: Standards-based Grading
Abstract Type: Workshop
Abstract: Alternative grading practices such as standards-based grading promote greater student learning and support more equitable (and humanizing) grading practices. In addition to practical aspects such as reducing test anxiety, standards-based grading provides transparency for students and instructors when it comes to grades. In this workshop, I will discuss the four pillars that serve as a foundation for alternative grading practices and how I implemented standards-based grading into my own courses. We will discuss various ways to implement standards-based grading (at your pace) as well as possible pitfalls. Attendees will leave this workshop armed with the tools to begin to implement standards-based grading into their own courses.
