Proposal Title: Scientific Reasoning and Evidence-based Decision-Making in a TYC Introductory Physics Lab
Abstract Type: Poster
Abstract: How do we engage students in evidence-based decision-making?  By developing their scientific reasoning skills!

This poster describes a guided inquiry-based introductory physics lab curriculum that promotes students' scientific reasoning skills necessary for effective evidence-based decision-making. Lab activities are designed around the theory-evidence coordination (TEC) framework to advance subskills within three areas of reasoning, including control of variables, data analytics, and causal decision making.  The Inquiry in Scientific Thinking, Analytics, and Reasoning (iSTAR) is a validated assessment instrument used to evaluate the impact of the lab curriculum on the three targeted skill areas.  We will discuss research results at a TYC and provide access to the curriculum and iSTAR assessment for interested physics faculty.
